Our Reasons

The Local League has ten teams of enthusiastic players who enjoy playing Walking Football.

Our teams are comprised of players from all walks of life, united by their passion for football.

The ethos of the Local League is to play the game with safety in mind and full respect for all.

We believe in promoting walking football for fitness & health, social interaction and safe competition.

Where We Play

The Local League plays all matches at Cove Football Club.

Address:

7 Squirrel Lane

Farnborough

GU14 8PF

The Local League uses the artificial pitch facility which is split into two smaller sized pitches so two matches play in parallel.

We have use of the Clubhouse and Changing Rooms.

Cove Football Club is at the end of Squirrel Lane and there is free parking available on site.

The normal match day sees the teams arriving between 9:00 to 9:30 and gathering in the Clubhouse to socialise and prepare.  Tea and coffee is available for those that need an early Sunday morning pick-me-up.

Fantastic volunteers have prepared the pitches so the teams can begin their warm ups and tactical discussions before the games begin promptly at 10:15.

After all the matches are complete the players either gather in the Clubhouse, where the bar is now open, or file away to reflect on the games played.

Local League History

The Local League began in 2021 and has grown over the two years from six playing teams, to eight teams and for the 2023 - 24 season to ten teams..

Each season the format has evolved based on team feedback and the desire to continually improve the experience for the players.

The first season had all six teams playing on the one Sunday per month and the teams were seven a side.  The age rule for this league was a minimum of at least four sixty year olds on the pitch at all times.  It was still three touch and we toted up the running and contact fouls by the individual, and when three of either was reached, a Blue Card was shown.

For season two, based on team feedback, we reduced the playing numbers to six a side.  This gave more space on the pitch and also aligned better to the FA based leagues.  We also introduced a team totting up rule where four team infringements resulted in a penalty being awarded and a Blue Card to the player committing the last foul.

For this coming season we are going to retain the team totting up rules but the cost for a team committing four infringements will be just a penalty awarded against them and no Blue Card.

Season two also saw the growth to eight teams which meant a change of format was required.  The change was to spread the games across two match days, with four teams playing one Sunday and the remaining four the following Sunday.  Teams would then be moved between the two groups so each team played all the other teams.  This two Sunday per month format will continue this season

The Local League also runs one-day Cup Competitions.  These are used to fill a month when no scheduled league games are organised or as a final finish to a season.
